Welcome to the Daily Blade. The Word of God is described as the sword of the Spirit, the primary spiritual weapon in the Christian's armor against the forces of evil. Your hosts are Joby Martin and Kyle Thompson, and they stand ready to equip men for the fight. Let's sharpen up.
Speaker 2:Welcome back to Romans, chapter 3. We have established in day one that none is righteous, no, not one. We have established on day two that it is not by works of the law that you were made right with God. But there's something else. Day three we established that the whole Bible has been pointing to this. And now the best part, if we pick it up in verse 22, paul says this. The best part If we pick it up in verse 22, paul says this the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. Let me read that again the righteousness of God. So how are we to be right with God? Here's how, through faith in Jesus Christ, for all who believe for there is no distinction for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and are justified by his grace as a gift through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. This is one of the most powerful sentences in the entire Bible.
Speaker 2:You see, what does it take to be saved? It takes faith. The Greek word is pastuo. It means to put your trust in, it means to believe in. I hope you know there's a difference in believing in and believing that. Like you know, I believe. I live in North Florida. I'm a big Georgia Bulldog fan. I believe that there's a football team down in Gainesville, but I do not believe in that team.
Speaker 2:There's a lot of people that go to church and call themselves Christians but they have not believed in Jesus. They just believe that he came and died. But have you put your faith in him? Have you shifted the trust of your life onto him? In other words, that Jesus came on a mission for you, a rescue mission for you, that God so loved you that he sent his only begotten son, that he showed up on the scene, that he lived the perfect life, that he went to the cross, he pushed upon his nail-pierced feet and he says it is finished. And when he did that, that it counted for you. And the Bible says that the moment that you have faith in Jesus, for all who believe, for all who pastuo, for all who trust, and what this means is if you believe, even if you can't fully explain all the doctrinal elements and the theological terminology, but you believe or trust for the very first time that when Jesus died on the cross, somehow that counted for me and the remission of my sin, then the Bible says that you will be saved. So if you've never done that, you should do that right now. You cry out to God Lord, save me. You admit it, I'm a sinner. I need a savior that you believe that when Christ died on the cross, somehow that counted for you. And the Bible says for all who call on the name of the Lord, you will be saved. And the reason that we need to do this is for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. That word fall short means miss the mark. Every single one of us has missed the mark of God's perfection and God's holiness. And even if you were to be perfect from this day forward, what are you going to do about the imperfections of your past? And he goes on to say and are justified by his grace as a gift. What it takes to be saved is that you must receive the free gift of eternal life For all who believe. We receive the right to be called children of God through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, that even though our salvation is free, it costs God everything.
Speaker 2:Have you ever redeemed a coupon? Then you have participated in a picture of the good news of gospel of Jesus Christ. I mean, think about how it works. You go out to your mailbox, you check your mailbox and you did not sign up for a coupon. But you have. You have been chosen that you would receive a free ham, and so you take the coupon. You go to the grocery store, you get the ham, you go through the checkout aisle and they check you out beep and they tell you that'll be $25. And then what do you do? You redeem the coupon. I hand you the coupon. You hand me the ham. What did the ham cost? You Answer nothing. It was a gift that you received for free. What did it cost the people that manufactured the ham? They cost the price of the ham. The real story is it cost the people that manufactured the ham. They cost the price of the ham. The real story is it cost the pig his life.
Speaker 2:Now, this is a picture of the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ. If you were hearing these words right now, god loves you and he wants you and he is offering you eternal life. And you say how do I receive it? Then you receive it through the redemption. That is in Christ Jesus that you raise your hand to God and say God, I would like to be saved. What does that cost you? You put your faith in Jesus Christ and it is a free gift that you receive. What does it cost God? It costs him the blood of his very own son. And the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, is open to you if you will just believe or trust or postuo, or put your faith in him.
