Welcome to the Daily Blade. The Word of God is described as the sword of the Spirit, the primary spiritual weapon in the Christian's armor against the forces of evil. Your hosts are Joby Martin and Kyle Thompson, and they stand ready to equip men for the fight. Let's sharpen up.
Speaker 2:Alright. So today we're going to be wrapping up our quick study of some of the Puritan prayers from the book the Valley of Vision. So we're going to look at the devotional prayer entitled Sixth Day Morning, the Gospel. I'll read it here O Thou, Most High, Creator of the ends of the earth, Governor of the universe, Judge of all men, Head of the church, Savior of sinners, Thy greatness is unsearchable, Thy goodness, infinite Thy compassions. Suitable, encouraging are the doctrines, promises and invitations of the gospel of peace. We are lost, but in it Thou hast presented to us a full, free and eternal salvation. Has presented to us a full, free and eternal salvation. Weak, but here we learn that help is found in one that is mighty, Poor, but in him we discover unsearchable riches. Blind, but we find he has treasures of wisdom and knowledge. We thank thee for thy unspeakable gift. Thy son is our only refuge, foundation, hope, confidence. We depend upon his death. Rest in His righteousness, desire to bear His image. May His glory fill our minds, His love reign in our affections, His cross inflame us with ardor. Let us, as Christians, fill our various situations in life, escape the snares to which they expose us, discharge the duties that arise from our circumstances, enjoy the moderation, their advantages, improve with diligence their usefulness, and may every place and company we are in be benefited by us. So, guys, here's the key part of that devotional prayer, at least for me. We thank thee for thy unspeakable gift. Thy son is our only refuge, foundation, hope, confidence. We depend upon his death. Rest in His righteousness, desire to bear His image. Which, guys, I mean? To the non-initiated, it really begs the question. What unspeakable gift? How is the Son, the capital S Son, our only refuge, foundation, hope and confidence? Why do we depend upon His death? Rest in his righteousness and desire to bear his name? And I'll tell you. Let's go to Luke 24, and we're going to start in verse 1.
Speaker 2:But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb taking the spices they had prepared, and they found the stone rolled away from the tomb. But when they went in, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel and as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day, rise.
Speaker 2:And they remembered his words and, returning from the tomb, they told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. Now, it was Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary, the mother of James, and the other women with them, who told these things to the apostles. But these words seemed to them an idle tale and they did not believe them. But Peter rose and ran to the tomb, Stooping and looking in. He saw the linen clothes by themselves and he went home marveling at what had happened the son of man delivered into the hands of evil men, crucified, murdered, entombed, resurrected. And it all counted for you. That truth is worth staking your whole life on. I compel you to do so.
