Introduction to the Daily Blade
Speaker 1Welcome to the Daily Blade . The Word of God is described as the sword of the Spirit , the primary spiritual weapon in the Christian's armor against the forces of evil . Your hosts are Joby Martin and Kyle Thompson , and they stand ready to equip men for the fight . Let's sharpen up .
Speaker 2All right . Day five on the Ten Commandments . We're looking at Israel's response to the Ten Commandments that there is only one God , that you should cut out the idols , that you need to watch your mouth , don't use the Lord's name in vain , that you should remember the Sabbath , keep it holy , that you should honor your father and mother , that thou shall not murder , that thou shall not commit adultery , that you shouldn't lie , you shouldn't steal and you shouldn't covet your neighbor's stuff . So God gives this law to Moses and then you get the response in verses 18 to 24 . Now , when all the people saw the thunder and the flashes of lightning and the sound of the trumpet and the mountain smoking , because Moses had gone up onto this mountain as required in chapter 19, . And God is meeting one-on-one with Moses , there's three people there , but God is talking directly to Moses and the people are down at the bottom watching from afar . They are not allowed to go up on the mountain because they cannot handle the presence of a holy God , because they have not been consecrated and they are afraid . It says the people were afraid and trembled and they stood far off and said to Moses Let me stop right there , a part of the difference between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant is this right here . You see , the people wanted a mediator between them and God . They're like we don't want to talk to God , we're scared . Moses , you talk to God and then you talk to us .
Speaker 2Well , when Jesus Christ came and he died on the cross , the curtain in the temple that separated the people of God from the presence of God was torn from the top to the bottom . That Jesus alone is our mediator , not a priest , definitely not Mary . Jesus alone is our mediator . He is the high priest and he has made a way so that us normal , sinful human beings like us , redeemed by the blood of Jesus , can go directly to God and have direct access to him by the blood of the Lamb . So what I see happening today is there are many , many people that would rather listen to a YouTube sermon instead of talk to God themselves . Don't get those things out of order . That you and your relationship with God , your direct connection to him with the scriptures and through the blood of Christ , is primary , and then you use sermons to help supplement that relationship .
Speaker 2Verse 20 , moses said to the people do not fear , for God has come to test you that the fear of him may be before you , that you may not sin . And the people stood far off while Verse 1 . Talked with you from heaven . You shall not make gods of silver to be with me , nor shall you make for yourself gods of gold , and this is what is important . The next commandment , after the 10 commandments , is this an altar of earth you shall make for me and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your peace offerings , your sheep and your oxen . In every place where I cause my name to be remembered , I will come to you and bless you .
Speaker 2So God gives the law . And then he immediately says and you're going to need to build some altars , why ? Because God knows that none of us can pull off the 10 commandments . Every single one of us . If you're being honest , if you lay your life across the Ten Commandments , we do not have a passing grade . We actually will go 0 for 10 . And again , some of you are like I've never killed anybody , I know . But Jesus says in the Sermon on the Mount that even if you've hated your brother , then you have already committed murder .
Speaker 2You see , god knows that this law was given . Like I've said , it's a map and a mirror . It's a map to show us how to live rightly before a righteous God , how to live in God's world , god's way , but it's also a mirror to show us all of the ways that we are in error . I mean , you've seen a picture of the law of God every single day when you walk into your bathroom , you walk up to the sink and there's a mirror and there's a sink , and the mirror there is to show you what you actually look like , and the sink is there to do something about it . The law is there to show us that there are none righteous no , not one . And then the altar is there to show us that we need a sacrifice to be made on our behalf .
Speaker 2Well , the reality is that the book of Romans says that no one will be declared righteous by works of the law , but God has sent someone , an alien righteousness , to do for us what we could not do for ourself , and Jesus pulled it off . Jesus did not come to do away with the law , but he fulfilled it . He fulfilled every promise and prophecy of the old covenant . He was tempted in every way that we are tempted , and yet never one time did he break any of God's laws , and this perfect one goes to the cross not just to die for us , but to die instead of us . And not only was he the perfect man , but he took sin upon himself and made himself the ultimate sacrifice . This is why John the Baptizer says about Jesus behold the Lamb of God who's come to take away the sin of the entire world . Not another Lamb of God that's going to cover over the sin of just a certain group of people , the Israelites , until next year , but the Lamb of God who's come to do for us what we could not do for ourselves live a perfect life and die the sinner's death to pay the full price . This is why Jesus on the cross pushes up on his nail-pierced feet and says it is finished .
Speaker 2Tetelestai literally means paid in full , that if you put your faith in that substitutionary atoning death of Jesus and his resurrection and you claim him as your Lord , then all of your sin is paid for fully and finally , and all of Christ's righteous life is credited to you . The Bible says it this way in 2 Corinthians 5.21, . God made him who's without sin to be sin for us , that we would be made the righteousness of God . You see , because of God's justice , all sin must be paid for . Because God is merciful , he delayed the payment , but because God is gracious , he made the payment on our behalf . He is the just and the justifier . The Ten Commandments are a map how we ought to rightly live and a mirror that none of us can do . It , that you and I need a Savior . I hope and pray that you know Jesus Christ as your Savior . If not , then ask him to be your Savior right now .
Speaker 1Amen . Thank you for listening to today's episode Before you go . If you want to help equip other men for the fight , share this podcast around and leave us a five-star rating and review . Stay sharp .
