The Daily Blade: Joby Martin & Kyle Thompson
#194 - Joby Martin // Reclaiming True Manhood
We explore the biblical foundations of manhood by returning to Genesis 2, examining God's original design for men before cultural distortions changed our understanding.
• Announcement of Kyle's upcoming book "Stand Firm and Act Like Men: Becoming the man you were created to be instead of who the world says you are"
• Genesis 2 reveals God formed man (Adam) from dust (adamah) and breathed life into him
• Unlike other creation that God spoke into existence, He formed man with His hands
• God breathed His spirit (ruah) into Adam face-to-face, making this relationship foundational
• Men today often achieve worldly success but still feel empty because they're made for relationship with God
• Many men exist as the "shell of a male" without receiving God's Spirit
• True fulfillment comes from being in right relationship with our Heavenly Father

Welcome to the Daily Blade. The Word of God is described as the sword of the Spirit, the primary spiritual weapon in the Christian's armor against the forces of evil. Your hosts are Joby Martin and Kyle Thompson, and they stand ready to equip men for the fight. Let's sharpen up.
Speaker 2:All right, welcome back to the Daily Blade. Gentlemen, this is week 40 of the Daily Blade. That is a really, really big deal, and in two weeks from now, I will be releasing a discipleship material, also known as a book, called Stand Firm and Act Like Men Becoming the man you were created to be instead of who the world says you are. And I think you will agree with me that something has gone horribly wrong, and the think you will agree with me that something has gone horribly wrong, and the reason that I write books is for one reason, and one reason only. It's the same reason that I do the Daily Blade, which is simply just to make disciples. So the content really over this next season is going to be specifically aimed at men to stand firm and act like men. A lot of the content that I'm going to cover is kind of a taste of what's going to be in the book. So if you find it helpful, then I would love for you to go grab a copy. If it helps you walk closer with Jesus. We're going to look at this entire week. We're going to look at Genesis, chapter 2, because when something is as screwed up as manhood is today, I think you've got to go all the way back to the beginning to see what God's intention for manhood is. And so Genesis, chapter 2, beginning in verse 5, says this when no bush of the field was yet in the land and no small plant of the field had yet sprung up, for the Lord God had not caused it to rain on the land and there was no man to work the ground. The Lord God had not caused it to rain on the land and there was no man to work the ground, and a mist was going up from the land and was watering the whole face of the ground verse 7. Then the Lord God formed the man of the dust from the ground. By the way, that word dust in Hebrew is adamah, it's where we get the name Adam. Then the Lord God formed the Adamah of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature. There's a lot going on here. That word for breathe is ruah, which means breath or spirit or even life, and so what I want you to understand here is all of Genesis, chapter 1,.
Speaker 2:The Bible says that God has spoken everything into existence. God says light, let there be light, and light shows up. He speaks the earth into existence, he speaks animals into existence. But when it comes to his own image bearers, the very first human being that God makes, he uses his hands and he forms the man of the dust of the ground. Well, why? Why does God even create us? Well, it's really because of his grace. It's not because God needs us, but out of an overflow of God's love for God's self. You see, one God in three persons God the Father, god the Son and God the Holy Spirit are in a perfectly submitted love relationship with himself. And out of an overflow of God's love for himself, he creates image bearers.
Speaker 2:Up until this point he says everything is good, good, good, but yet it's not complete until God has image bearers. And what I want you to see here is is that when God forms the man from the dust or the dirt of the ground, he is not yet a living creature. It is not until the man has received the breath of life and again, it doesn't just mean air, but it's not until he receives the ruah, the spirit of God. Then the man becomes a living creature. You see, I know that there's a bunch of men listening to the daily blade and you are the shell of a male, but you have not received the spirit of God and you are not yet the man that God has called you to be.
Speaker 2:You see, the Bible also wants us to know that when God breathed the breath of life into Adam, he was face to face, he was nostril to nostril. This is not like God from the third heavens, a long ways away, but God was face to face, he was nostril to nostril. This is not like God from the third heavens, a long ways away, but God was face to face with Adam. This means that when he breathes the Ruach of life into Adam and Adam opens his eyes, the very first man, the very first thing he sees is the face of his heavenly father, and this was imprinted on the heart and soul of every single man. And that's what we have been created for.
Speaker 2:You and I have been created for the glory of God, to be in that right, face-to-face relationship with our Heavenly Father. By the way, this is why the temporary things of this world will never fully and finally satisfy. This is why some of you men are living in your dream house, married to your dream girl with your dream job, in your dream house, married to your dream girl, with your dream job, driving your dream truck, and you lay your head on the pillow at night and you think is this it? And brother, this isn't it. You see, man was created for the glory of God, to be in a face-to-face relationship with him. You were created by God and for God and you are not yet being the man you've been called to be. Until you receive the Spirit of God. Come back tomorrow as we do a deeper dive into what it means to be a biblical man.
