The Daily Blade: Joby Martin & Kyle Thompson

#199 - Joby Martin // Question the Lies, Not the Lord

Season 1 Episode 199

We trace the fall in Genesis 3 to show how subtle lies still bend modern life and how men counter those lies with Scripture, courage, and obedience. We call out the enemy’s three questions—about God’s Word, worth, and work—and point to trust in Christ as the way back to strength.

• the Bible as the sword that equips men
• what God creates, the enemy tries to corrupt
• Genesis 2 to 3 as the turning point of the story
• the serpent’s tactic of twisting God’s words
• three assaults on the word, worth, and work of God
• money, sex, and identity through a biblical lens
• obedience as the path to flourishing
• Christ’s finished work as the anchor for courage
• brotherhood and the local church as protection

All right, gentlemen, welcome back to the Daily Blade. This is week 41 that we have been doing this. Um, as I mentioned last week, next week, uh my fourth book, Stand Furn and Act Like Men, will be coming out. Uh, if you think that'll be helpful, I'd love for you to pick it up. What we're talking about is becoming the man you were created to be instead of who the world says you are. This week we're gonna look at Genesis chapter three. Last week, we mostly looked at Genesis chapter two, God's purpose in man before sin entered the world. This week we're gonna basically ask the question well, what happened? I mean, what went wrong? How in the world did we go from the Apostle Paul and William Wallace and Charles Spurgeon to a bunch of bearded men in dresses mocking the Last Supper at the Summer Olympics? I mean, something has gone horribly wrong. And so one of the things that I talk about often is this God creates, and everything that God creates, the enemy, the devil, tries to corrupt. And so by the time you get to Genesis chapter three, God has created everything. He's created the heavens and the earth, the sky and the sea, the birds and the animals. He's created man and woman. And everything goes great for less than half a page on my Bible. Then when you go from chapter two to chapter three, verse one, the Bible simply says this now, the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, Did God actually say you shall not eat of any tree in the garden? Again, whatever God creates, the enemy corrupts. You see, he twists things. In this case, he's not just gonna outright say, Eve, why don't you reject God and follow after me? No, no, no, no. Now what he does is he comes in with questions and he comes in with lies and he comes in with just little twists. And the enemy always wants us to question at least three things. He wants us to question the word of God, the worth of God, and the work of God. First of all, he says, Did God actually say? Like, can you really believe the word of God? And I'm telling you, we live in a day and age where the enemy, this world, and even your own flesh has a tendency to question the word of God. I mean, we live in a world that says, can you really believe what the Bible has to say about, I don't know, money? You know, the world tells us one way to do the money. And it says that more is mine. Now, the Bible says that we are to bring our first and best to God, that everything we have belongs to God, and all we are supposed to do to honor Him is to bring back our first and best. But this world says, no, no, no, no, no, don't believe that. No, we're not supposed to bring our first and best. We're not supposed to tithe unto the Lord that what we have is ours. The world would have us believe that we know how to do sex better than God. And what happens is you get a bunch of pansy wasted, non-Bible believing pastors out there that just want to say what tickles the people's ears. The Bible says, do not be conformed to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. But what a lot of people do today is they try to conform the word of God to this world. Yeah. That's what the enemy wants you to do. Did God actually say? He wants you to question the word of God. He also wants you to question the worth of God. He'll say, Listen, if God really was taking care of you, if he really loved you, wouldn't he treat you better? Is he really worthy of your praise if he's not answering your prayers the way that you're asking them? And the third thing he asks is this He says, Do you really believe the work of God? And fundamentally, that's two things. He wants you to question the work of God. He wants you to question what God made when he made you. And he wants you to question the work of God on the cross. That when Jesus pushed up on his nail-pierced feet and he says, It is finished, he wants you to believe that that counted for all those good church folk somewhere else, but it could not have counted for you. You see, the devil has been were at work all the time from the very beginning, trying to get us to question the word of God, the work of God, and the worth of God. You see, in reality, everything that God gives us in his word is for his glory and for our flourishing, and he can be trusted. You see, the Bible itself, and all of its precepts and all of its commands and all of its laws come from a good God who loves his kids and wants what's best for us. And our best is found in obedience to the word of God.
