• the promise of power from Acts 1:8
• clarifying the Great Commission as you go
• the personal call to be a witness
• practical ways to share faith at work
• praying for coworkers by name
• seeing people as persons not projects

Welcome to the Daily Blade. The Word of God is described as the Sword of the Spirit, the primary spiritual weapon in the Christian's armor against the forces of evil. Your hosts are Joby Martin and Kyle Thompson, and they stand ready to equip men for the fight. Let's sharpen up.
SPEAKER_01:All right, welcome back to day three on how to glorify God at work. Now, this is the one that you probably expected me to start with, but I wanted to establish first and foremost that you're not just at work to be a missionary, but the work that you do in and of itself can bring God the glory. However, you are at work to be a missionary also. These things are not opposed to one another, but these things complement one another. In fact, the better you do your job, probably the better missionary you are going to be on your job. You see, Acts chapter 1, verse 8 says this, but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses. In Jerusalem, in Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. In other words, no matter where you are, in Jerusalem, the town that you live in, in Judea, the surrounding regions of where you live, in Samaria, that's across the tracks, with people that you were told when you were growing up you're not supposed to hang out with, and to the very ends of the earth, we are supposed to take the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ. But we are not called to do this in our own power. The Bible says, you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you. And then it says, You will be my witnesses. It says, You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses. Notice it doesn't say that I'm going to witness for you. Notice that it doesn't say that Kyle is going to witness for you. Notice that it doesn't say that your preacher or pastor or favorite podcaster is going to do this for you, that you will be a witness for Christ. When you get called as a witness in a courtroom, this means that you have an eyewitness, firsthand account of what has happened. And if you were a follower in Jesus Christ, then that means that you have an eyewitness, firsthand account to what Christ has done in your life. And the reality is, is that you will be a witness at work. You'll either be a good witness for the testimony of the love and the gospel of Jesus Christ, or you will be a bad witness of the love and the gospel of Jesus Christ. So let me ask you, are you a good witness or are you a bad witness? You see, in Matthew chapter 28, this is the last thing that Jesus is going to say before he ascends to the right hand of God the Father. We know it as the Great Commission. Matthew 28, beginning in verse 16, says, Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him, they worshipped him, but some doubted. That kind of makes me laugh. And then Jesus came and said to them, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you, and behold, I am with you always to the end of the age. Now listen, oftentimes in English, this is a confusing translation of what we call the Great Commission. Jesus says, All authority in heaven and on earth is going to be given to me. And then in Acts 1.8, he says, You're going to receive power, because this authority that I have, this power that I have, I'm going to give to you by the power of the Holy Spirit. And when you receive that power of the Holy Spirit, which, by the way, if you've put your faith in Jesus, the Spirit of God has been deposited in your life. And you don't need any more spirit. You've got it all. The question is, does the Spirit have all of you? And then what we do with that, the Bible says, then go therefore and make disciples. What looks like an imperative here, go, is actually better translated as you are on the go, make disciples. And nobody thinks make disciples means that you find people that already believe in Jesus and you tell them more things about Jesus. No, no, no, no. Everybody understands this means you find people that don't yet know Jesus and you share the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ so that they can surrender to him, trust him for salvation, and then continue by being baptized, and we teach them to observe all the things that he has commanded. So what this means for you, whether you're a plumber or you're a police officer or a podcaster, whatever you are, as you are on the go, wherever you are in your life, the Spirit of God is with you. And as you receive power, nudging from the Holy Spirit, then you be a witness wherever you are. Yes, that means to the ends of the earth, but that also means wherever you are at work. And I would implore you to begin to pray for and look for opportunities at work to share your faith. Sometimes that means you share the whole gospel. Sometimes that means you share a link to the Daily Blade or a link to one of Kyle's podcasts or a link to one of my sermons. Sometimes you share an invitation to come to church with you. Sometimes when somebody asks you a question about how you got to be where you are, then you share your testimony. Sometimes you share a burden. And what that means is you let people know that you are a praying man and you ask how you can be in prayer for them. Because I'm telling you, there is no atheist in times of despair. And when their life hits the fan, if you know what I mean, then they will come to the praying person at work, not the fun person at work. And then sometimes you just share another cup of coffee with that brother or sister because it's a person, not a project. But as you are on the go at work, identify the people that don't yet know Christ. Pray for an opportunity to share your faith. Ask the Spirit of God to give you the power to be a witness at work. Amen.
