SPEAKER_01:

All right, day two this week, as we are going to do a deep dive on how we glorify God at work. And a part of the way that we glorify God at work is not just what we do, even though the what we do matters like crazy, but it is the who we do it for. The Bible says this in Colossians chapter three. This is in a section of the scriptures. It shows up several times in the epistles called the household code, where God instructs us on how to be married, on how to be a parent, and how to go to work. Colossians 3 22, that verse says bondservant. The Greek word there is doula. So don't think like transatlantic chattel slavery. That's not what it is. This is somebody that would willingly or willfully go to work for somebody else to either pay off a debt or some in some way better their life. So in our context, this would be an employee, okay? So bondservants, obey in everything those who are your earthly masters or bosses. Not by way of eye service as people pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. Here's our verse. Whatever you do, work heartily as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. For the wrongdoer will be paid back for the wrong he has done, and there is no partiality. Let me ask you this. When you go to work, who are you working for? Do you think you're working for you? Do you think you're working for the company? Do you think you're working for the paycheck? Do you think you're working for the boss? Well, the Bible says everything you do, you should work as unto the Lord. That God sees everything that we do and we want to worship him at work. And again, that doesn't just mean praying at work, and that doesn't just mean sharing your faith at work. That kind of stuff matters. But it's actually in the way that we work, that is a way that we bring God glory. That Christians should be the greatest workforce on the planet. Why? Because we don't work for the approval of man, but we work because we already have the approval of God. In Matthew chapter 25, there's this very famous parable called the parable of the talents. And it is a work-based parable. I don't mean a works-based parable, like if you do good, then you will earn your salvation. But the story that Jesus decides to share here is about a worker that works hard because he knows the goal of the master. Matthew chapter 25, verse 14, the Bible says, For it will be like a man going on a journey who called his servants. By the way, the it there is the end of the world, the judgment of all things. It will be like a man going on a journey who called his servants and entrusted to them his property. To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, each according to his ability. Then he went away. He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more. So also he who had two talents made two talents more. But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his master's money. Now after a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them, and he who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five talents more, saying, Master, you delivered to me five talents, here I have made five talents more. His master said to him, Well done, good and faithful servant, you have been faithful over a little, and I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master. Now check this out. And he also, who had the two talents, came forward, saying, Master, you delivered to me two talents, here I have made two talents more. And his master said to him, He's going to get the same blessing. Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little, I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master. That everything we have is a blood-brought grace gift from God, and the talents that we have. Now, in Matthew chapter 25, he was talking about a sum of money, but the the double meaning of this word works in English. That the talents that you have to do your job have been given to you by God. So let me ask you, what are you doing with those? That we are, yes, we're called to be salt and light, and we're supposed to do quality work. We'll talk about that. But we should be the hardest workers, that we should take the gifts God has given us, whether it's as a teacher or a musician or in finance or in art or maybe you're a podcaster, whatever that thing is, that we should do the most with it under the glory of God, because when God does come to judge us on our work, he's not going to judge us based on the talents that he gave somebody else. He's going to judge you based on the talents that he gave to you. So let me ask you, what are you doing for the glory of God and for the sake of human flourishing with the talents that God has given to you? I would encourage you, whatever you do, work heartily. That means if you start a job, you finish it. That means if you're gonna do it, you might as well do it right. That means you better do the best that you can do. Whatever you do, work heartily as for the Lord and not for men. Amen.
