0:20 Alright, welcome to a new week of the Daily Blade. 0:22 So as I was thinking through what to talk about on the Daily Blade this week, I literally felt like God put a single word inside of my head, and that's hunger. 0:31 Hunger. 0:32 And so immediately I started thinking of different times in my life where I was really hungry for the word of God, and other times where it was just kind of like an add-on or like an afterthought. 0:41 And really, here's the thing: during those times of hunger for the word, my circumstances were all over the place. 0:47 So there were some times where I was experiencing and recognizing a lot of blessings in my life, either, you know, with my job or my relationships or my body or whatever. 0:56 And then there were other times where I was experiencing what can only be described as a dark night of the soul, right? 1:02 So I can actually remember one specific time period of my life where I literally wasn't sure how I was going to make it from one hour to the next. 1:10 And I'm, I mean, I'm not being hyperbolic, I'm not kidding. 1:12 And some of you guys know exactly what I'm talking about, but I was that desperate for a movement of God in my life. 1:18 I was desperate for some word of encouragement from a brother. 1:21 I just needed that, you know, little bit of light that would sustain me for just a little bit longer, right? 1:27 And so what I intend to do this week is to help elevate the hunger that you all have for the word of God. 1:33 So I want to pour gasoline on that fire, if you will. 1:36 And look, I can already tell you guys are hungry for it because you're here. 1:40 You're listening to the Daily Blade. 1:41 You know, you're in your truck, you're at the gym or the job site, or you're on a run, and you're listening to the Daily Blade because you want more of the Word of God in your head and in your heart and in your soul. 1:51 So, guys, let's just go ahead and get to work today. 1:54 So, today we're actually going to look at a story from Genesis 25. 1:57 Uh, but to set the stage, so we have Isaac, the son of Abraham. 2:00 He prays because his wife Rebecca is barren. 2:03 God answers the prayers and they conceive twins. 2:06 And inside the womb, there was a big struggle going on. 2:08 This caused Rebecca to ask God what was going on exactly. 2:11 God told her that the twins inside of her represented two nations and that eventually the older would serve the younger. 2:18 And at birth, the first baby, Esau, comes out. 2:21 He's red and hairy. 2:22 The second one comes out grasping Esau's heel. 2:25 This is Jacob. 2:27 And as they grow up, Esau develops into a man's man. 2:30 So he's a skilled outdoorsman and he's a hunter. 2:33 And then we have Jacob, who was more of a mama's boy. 2:36 He liked to kind of hang around inside. 2:37 He liked to kind of stay inside the tent. 2:39 So Isaac naturally favored Esau and Rebekah naturally favored Jacob. 2:44 Okay, so that's the setup for Genesis 25. 2:47 I'm gonna start reading in verse 29. 2:49 Once when Jacob was cooking stew, Esau came in from the field and he was exhausted. 2:53 And Esau said to Jacob, Let me eat some of that red stew, for I am exhausted. 2:58 Jacob said, Sell me your birthright now. 3:02 Esau said, I'm about to die. 3:04 Of what use is the birthright to me? 3:07 Jacob said, Swear to me now. 3:09 So he swore to him and sold his birthright to Jacob. 3:12 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew, and he ate and drank and rose and went his way. 3:18 Thus Esau despised his birthright. 3:21 So a lot has been made about this story, and honestly, to our modern ears and sensibilities, it seems, you know, absolutely preposterous that Esau would act in such an impetuous manner. 3:30 I mean, really, you're so hungry and worn out that you're willing to give away your birthright as the firstborn son, which in this culture at this time was incredibly important, for some stew? 3:42 I mean, look, guys, I can make a mean stew, but ain't nobody's stew that good, right? 3:47 But the overall point of this story isn't as much about the impulsive nature of Esau, it's that Esau was hungry and undisciplined, which leads to a man that will make really, really stupid decisions. 4:02 And here's the thing Esau was hungry for something worldly. 4:07 He was only thinking about his earthly body, he only had that in mind, he was thinking with his flesh. 4:12 And in this moment, as we see with later decisions and occurrences in his life, he was willing to trade eternal things for immediate relief, for immediate satisfaction and gratification. 4:22 So he didn't hunger for the will of God and it cost him. 4:26 It cost him a lot. 4:28 So, guys, don't be like Esau. 4:30 Don't just hunger for the things of this world, the things that will not surely and sufficiently satisfy you over the long haul. 4:38 You must hunger for God's will for your life. 4:42 And a great way to help surmise what that is, is to spend time with him reading his word. 4:49 So don't just consume things like the Daily Blade and then call it a day. 4:53 Use things like the Daily Blade to help increase your hunger for what God wants to reveal to you through the Holy Bible.
