0:20 All right, welcome back, day two. 0:21 I'm gonna read the passage again, again. 0:23 I'm I'm repeating because it's so important. 0:26 So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. 0:40 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 0:46 Let each of you look not only at his own interest, but also the interest of others. 0:50 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but he emptied himself by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men, and being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient 1:09 to the point of death, even death on a cross. 1:11 Therefore, God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of the Father. 1:28 So again, yesterday, Paul says, Make my joy complete by being unified, being one. 1:33 And you go, Well, Paul, I don't know if you've met people I go to church with, but that's gonna be hard. 1:37 How in the heck am I gonna do that? 1:38 Paul goes, here's how you're gonna do that. 1:40 Ready, verse three. 1:41 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 1:47 Let each of you look not only to your own interest, but also the interest of others. 1:53 So the Bible says, do nothing out of selfish ambition. 1:56 Do you do things out of selfish ambition? 1:59 That's the pride of life is a temptation to be somebody, to make much of yourself. 2:04 Is that what you're doing? 2:05 Make much of yourself. 2:06 Now, ambition in and of itself is not bad. 2:09 Uh, my friend and Kyle's friend Ruslan K. 2:12 D wrote a great book called Godly Ambition: How We Should Leverage Everything We Have for the Glory of God. 2:16 You should read that. 2:17 But are you trying to make much of yourself or are you trying to make much of the Lord? 2:21 Do nothing out of vain conceit. 2:23 Does your life exalt Christ or does it exalt you? 2:26 I mean, one of the easiest ways to see this is just look through your social media. 2:30 Does it make much of you or does it make much of Christ? 2:34 I think John the Baptist is an incredible example of what it looks like to do nothing from selfish ambition or vain conceit. 2:42 At one point, the disciples, John the Baptist's disciples, come up to John the Baptist and say, hey, boss, we're losing market share. 2:47 Everybody's going to follow after Jesus. 2:49 So what are we going to do here? 2:52 And John the Baptist essentially says, Bro, that's the whole point. 2:55 The point of my life is to point to Jesus. 2:56 He even takes it further. 2:58 He says, Listen, I must decrease and he must increase. 3:02 And then he shares this example. 3:04 He's like, Look, bro, I'm like the groomsman at the wedding. 3:08 My whole job is to point to the marriage, the bride and the groom, not to make much of me. 3:13 Let me ask you, do you make much of you? 3:16 You see, it says, in humility, we should count others more significant than ourselves. 3:21 Humility is a posture, not a feeling or a personality type. 3:25 And the way that we humble ourselves is that we treat other people as if they are a bigger deal than we are. 3:32 They're not actually more valuable. 3:35 Our value is the same because we are image bearers of God, paid for by the blood of Christ. 3:40 But we're supposed to treat other people as if they are more significant. 3:43 You've done this before. 3:44 If you've ever gone to an awards banquet, you treat the person receiving the award like they're the most valuable person. 3:49 If you've ever been to a wedding, you treat the bride and the groom like they are a bigger deal than you. 3:54 This is how we're supposed to treat one another. 3:56 Not just look at your own interest, but look at the interest of others. 4:00 So let me ask you, how do you treat people? 4:02 Do you treat people this way? 4:04 Here's a great way to think about it. 4:06 Imagine the person that you would like to meet more than anybody else. 4:11 I don't know who that is. 4:12 Is it maybe a sports star, maybe a famous preacher or pocket? 4:18 I don't know who it would be. 4:19 Imagine that person comes over to your house. 4:23 How would you treat them? 4:24 I know how you treat them. 4:25 You would honor them. 4:27 You would not interrupt them, you would not cut them off, you would not be rude to them. 4:32 You would treat them like a really, really, really big deal. 4:37 I mean, one time I've I've talked about it before, I got invited to have a dinner with Dr. 4:41 Billy Graham. 4:42 How do you think I treated Dr. 4:43 Billy Graham? 4:44 Do you think I just walked in the house that we were in and said, hey Billy, go get me something to eat? 4:49 You think I got frustrated with Billy when he didn't respond to me immediately? 4:53 Do you think you think I shooed Billy away because I had I had a text or a social media thing that I was looking at? 5:00 That's absolutely no way. 5:01 I was in awe just to be in his presence. 5:05 And what Paul is teaching us is that is how we should treat one another. 5:09 Do nothing from selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility, count others as more significant than yourself. 5:16 Don't just look at your own interests, but also the interest of others.
