0:20 All right, day three in our journey through Philippians 2, the first eleven verses, and we'll read it all. 0:26 Paul says this: So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. 0:42 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 0:49 Let each of you look not only at his own interest, but also the interest of others. 0:54 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped. 1:03 But he emptied himself by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men, and being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 1:14 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confessed that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father. 1:30 So I as I'm going through this yesterday, that we should treat every single other person as if they're better than us, more valuable than us, more significant than us. 1:39 I get what your begin, what your inner dialogue is. 1:43 You begin to think, well, okay, hold on, man. 1:44 How far do I take this? 1:46 I mean, won't I be run over? 1:48 Won't I be taken advantage of? 1:50 I mean, if I just don't think about myself, who's going to think about me if I'm just thinking about everybody else? 1:55 How far should I take it? 1:56 Well, I'm glad you asked the question. 1:58 I think Paul anticipates us thinking this. 2:01 He goes, Oh, you want to know how far to take it? 2:03 Here's how far you take it. 2:04 You take it as far as Jesus Christ took it. 2:07 The SV says, have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus. 2:13 The NIV says that your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped. 2:23 But here's what he did: he emptied himself by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men and being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 2:33 That's how far you take it. 2:34 You take it as far as Jesus did. 2:36 You see, when the Bible says that though he was in the form of God, he did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped. 2:42 Here's what this means that the God, like Jesus on the earth, he never played the God card. 2:49 The fullness of God dwelled in the person of Jesus, and yet he never flexed that. 2:55 It's not like he ever went to, you know, get go to a restaurant and he's like, hey, reservation for 13, Jesus Christ, and they're like, well, you know, you're gonna have to wait and be like, Do you know who I'm talking to? 3:05 I'm the Son of God, and flex on them. 3:07 That's not how he acted. 3:09 He never jumped to the front of the line. 3:11 He always humbled himself. 3:13 And he goes on to say he emptied himself. 3:16 That's very interesting. 3:18 Because our culture is full of ourselves. 3:21 Full of ourselves. 3:22 I mean, you want to hear something terrible about the legacy of our generation? 3:27 Those of us alive today, we invented the selfie. 3:30 That's what we will be known for. 3:32 In fact, there are a couple of hundred people that die every year. 3:35 It's called death by selfie because somebody wants to get a really cool selfie, like in front of a shark and they get eaten, or by a cliff at the Grand Canyon and they fall off. 3:43 It's called death by selfie. 3:45 Um Yeah, man, Darwin wasn't wrong about everything. 3:49 And then Jesus poured himself out, emptied himself by taking the form of a servant. 3:57 That he he was born in the likeness of men. 4:00 Now we don't think about this that much at Christmas, but I want you to think about what it meant for Jesus to be born as a baby in a manger, the Almighty, sovereign King of the universe, who spoke all things into existence and by his very power holds all things together. 4:15 At just the right time, he stands up off of his throne. 4:19 He takes off his crown, he lays down his scepter, he takes off his royal robe, he leaves the presence where the angels and the cherubim are singing to him, Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come. 4:33 And he was found in human form, born as a baby, and he humbled himself, and not just that, that he was obedient to do the will of the Father every single time, and that obedience to the Father, because for the joy set before him, 4:54 he did not deny going to the cross, despising its shame. 4:59 That in order to win the prize of you and I being reconciled unto God in obedience with what the Father had sent him to do, he treated us like our deal was bigger than his deal. 5:14 And if that's how he treated us, then how are we to treat one another? 5:20 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, that we should take it just as far as Jesus took it.
