0:20 All right, welcome back to the Daily Blade. 0:22 I'm picking it up where I left off last time. 0:24 This week we are going to spend all week on Philippians 2, chapter 17 through verse 21. 0:32 Let's go. 0:33 Paul says this even if I am to be poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrificial offering of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all. 0:42 Likewise, you also should be glad and rejoice with me. 0:46 I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, so that I too may be cheered by news of you. 0:53 For I have no one like him who will be genuinely concerned for your welfare, for they all seek their own interest, not those of Jesus Christ. 1:03 Let's drill down on verse 17. 1:07 Paul says, Even if I am to be poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrificial offering of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all. 1:15 There's so much here. 1:17 One of the things that this verse reminds me of is I think in our current society we spend way too much time, effort, and money on quote unquote self-care. 1:26 Now, is self-care important? 1:28 It depends on why you were taking care of yourself. 1:31 If you were taking care of yourself so that you can play your role in the Great Commission to serve the interests of Christ, then by all means, take care of yourself so that you can run the race that God has marked out for you. 1:46 However, that's not typically what's happening in our society. 1:50 Most of the money and the time and the energy and their effort that we spend talking about and doing quote unquote self-care, if the reason that you're doing it is so that you can live a comfortable life bowing at the altar of your own happiness and fulfillment wrapped around the axle of me, then that is not what Christ 2:08 has called you to do. 2:10 Paul is pouring himself out. 2:14 So after he's encouraged the church in Philippi to endure, to not complain, to be obedient, Paul says, Look at me, boys, I'm doing the same thing. 2:25 And the reason that I'm doing this is for your sake. 2:30 Now, this idea of Paul being poured out, what he means is this Paul is saying, my entire life is being emptied out before God as an act of worship. 2:41 And he's pointing back to a Jewish sacrificial system. 2:45 That the sacrifice was made on the altar. 2:49 The lamb or the goat would be sacrificed and it would be put on the altar. 2:52 And then at the end of the sacrifice, as an act of worship, you would pour out a glass of wine, the whole thing. 3:01 Well, in the New Testament, what Paul is saying is Jesus is the sacrifice. 3:06 And so Jesus is the one who saves. 3:08 Jesus is the one who has the power to change lives, not us. 3:12 But upon his sacrifice, our lives are poured out in obedience as a sacrifice, as an act of worship to what he has called us to do. 3:22 The sacrifice was offered in Christ. 3:25 The sacrifice is Jesus Christ on the cross. 3:28 That paid the price. 3:29 The wine poured out, that's my life for the sake of the gospel. 3:34 And in the offering, in the drink offering upon the sacrificial offering, there was nothing held back. 3:42 One of the ways my friend Pastor Tim Timberlake at Celebration Church says it is this is that when your life is poured out as a sacrificial offering, this means that you are good down to the very last drop. 3:57 The decisions you make, the way you spend money, the words that you use, the prayers that you pray, and there is nothing, nothing, nothing that you are holding back in your life to the advancement of the kingdom of God. 4:12 So let me ask you this question. 4:13 Where are you holding back? 4:16 Have you been discipled by the world, or are you discipled by the word? 4:21 You see, the world says to make much of you, and the word says that you are crucified with Christ. 4:28 It's very interesting. 4:30 We studied this a couple of weeks ago, but we the Bible says, Paul says that we should have the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus, who emptied himself. 4:40 Well, let me ask you, men, M5 percenters, are you emptying yourself for the sake of Christ? 4:46 Or quite honestly, are you full of yourself? 4:49 Are you filling yourself up? 4:51 Are you just serving yourself? 4:53 Or can you say, like Paul, even if I am to be poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrificial offering of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all. 5:06 May you pour yourself out to the very last drop for the sake of the good news of the gospel.
